Germany celebrates unification (Reuters)

It was in (..?..), 1989 when the Berlin Wall (..?..) came down. There were (..?..) celebrations marking the end of a (..?..) nation, at least, unofficially. More than 20 years later, Bremen (..?..) to the 20^th anniversary of the country’s unification. The political leadership of Germany attended a church service ahead of the first major (..?..) for the President Herr Christian Wolff since he (..?..) in June. The service was held in the Bremen cathedral. After the service, people filed out with many later (..?..) to the convention hall for the official ceremony. The German President said it was the East Germans who carried the (..?..) burden of unification.

“It was the East Germans, who by far carried the heaviest weight on the path towards unification of our country. They, in some ways, had to start their lives all over again. They needed to (..?..) their daily lives, take advantage of (..?..), and they did it with incredible readiness to accept change. To this day, this has not been (..?..) enough.

While many still point to the (..?..) between what was once the East and the West of Germany, analysts say, on the whole (..?..) has been a success.

BlackBerry’s biggest problem may be an Apple, or more specifically, Apple’s increasingly popular iPhone. Kerry Ruebin has just handed in her work BlackBerry for good.

The loss of corporate clients is a big concern among analysts. BlackBerry maker Research and Motion announced second quarter earnings that beat estimates, but beneath the headlines there are signs that growth is slowing, just as competition is increasing.

“Expanding into the consumer market and making that phone be a real multi-media fun phone with apps and all that stuff is really going to be a challenge for BlackBerry. And also retaining those corporate customers. As long as it can keep those corporate customers, it’s going to be OK going forward. The BlackBerry Torch, a touch-screen device with a slide out keypad was intended to ignite sales and excitement among consumers. Launched last quarter, it failed to make much of a sales spark while devices powered by Google Android software and the Apple iPhone 4 continue to win over customers. Carnoy says that the BlackBerry’s keyboard is a big draw for users, but there’s competition ahead.

“Apple is pretty much going to have the virtual keyboard, but there’s a lot of Android devices out there that’re going to have both the physical and the virtual (keyboard) and a touch screen, so I think that Android is a big worry for BlackBerry at this point.”

RIM’s international growth helped mask some of the weakness in the last quarter and recent issues with some foreign governments over its encrypted data is expected to be resolved soon. The company also offered stronger guidance for the current quarter suggesting to some analysts that BlackBerry is far from dead.
